Server-Side Tracking in 2026: A No-BS Setup Guide

iOS, ITP and cookie loss are wrecking your ROAS. Here's how we wire GA4 + Meta CAPI server-side without a dev team.

Server-side tracking used to be a 3-month engineering project. In 2026 it's a Sunday afternoon if you know what to click.

The stack

GTM Server-Side container hosted on Cloud Run (or Stape). Point a subdomain (data.yourbrand.com) at it. Route all browser events through it. From there, fan out to GA4, Meta CAPI, TikTok Events API and Google Ads.

First-party cookies

The server container writes its own first-party cookies. That means no ITP truncation, no 7-day expiry, and identity persists across sessions properly.

Hashed PII

On every purchase event, send email and phone SHA-256 hashed. That single change is usually worth 15-30% more matched conversions on Meta.

Cost

Roughly $30-80/month in infra for a mid-sized DTC brand. Typical payback is under a week from recovered conversions alone.
